You have probably heard about this summer's data breach at Equifax. Being one of the top credit reporting agencies it makes this breach especially significant. It is possible that millions of social security numbers, address, and date of births were accessed, making it easier for criminals to target you for identity theft.
What should you do?
First, check with Equifax at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com to see if your data may be affected. If you were affected you can sign up for Equifax credit monitoring service (Trusted ID Premier). It's free for up to one year.
Second, check your credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com. This gives you the ability to review all three major agency reports annually. You might consider checking one service report now and a different service in 3-6 months.
